Quotes on Nonconformism

A few quotes that sum up the philosophical viewpoint I would like to explore in this blog:

“Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.”
― John F. Kennedy

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Any fool can make a rule, and any fool will mind it.”
― Henry David Thoreau

“The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking.”
― John Kenneth Galbraith

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect."
― Mark Twain

"Be neither a conformist or a rebel, for they are really the same thing.  Find your own path, and stay on it."
― Paul Vixie

"If you don't stand for anything, you don't stand for anything! If you don't stand for something, you don't stand for anything!''
― George W. Bush

Going the Wrong Way

I am bicycling back from the grocery store. It is early on a Sunday morning - not much traffic. A soft rain has just started again as I cross the highway and ride up the wrong way of an on-ramp. I see the familiar warning sign but this time I am struck by its appropriateness. How important it is at times go the wrong way - how it can help us to see better, to discover, to grow, to find our own path.

In our blog about sailing on Ladybug, we share our travels afloat that have sometimes taken us outside the bounds of conformism. I hope to use this blog to share other adventures and thoughts on living an interesting life.
